November/December Newsletter

Dear HERD families,

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out” Robert Collier. Over the past semester, this sentiment has been visible throughout the building as we consistently work in collective teams to ensure the highest level of student growth and achievement. Teacher teams and specialists continue to collaborate and dig into the new core reading curriculum through a Professional Learning Community lens by asking - “What do we want students to learn?”, “How will we know if each student has learned it?, “How will we respond when some students do not learn it?” , “How can we extend and enrich the learning for students who have demonstrated proficiency?”. We have also participated in ongoing math training to develop language routines that facilitate a student’s ability to apply vocabulary and comprehension skills when solving rigorous, multi-step math problems.

Our school-wide focus on Social Emotional wellness during HERD connection time has helped students strengthen relationships and build self awareness and self management skills. With the guidance of Ms. Talen, our school counselor, and the daily efforts of our classroom teachers, many students have shown growth in problem solving and self advocating skills. We continue to see the benefits of our newly hired GT facilitator, Interventionist and additional ELD and Mild/Mod Learning specialists. They collaborate with teachers to share strategies and implement instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students. The impact of our team’s dedication to ongoing training, continuous reflection, and actionable next steps has been awesome to see and evident in the growth of our students. These sustained efforts related to meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of all students connect directly to our school mission, vision and collective goals, which can be viewed on our website

We are so proud of the achievements among our staff and students, yet could not accomplish many of our goals without your ongoing support. Our families and community contribute in so many ways and we couldn’t be more grateful. A special thank you to Mckenzie Eliis and the Garden group for introducing our students to new vegetables and recipes this fall and for the fantastic tree, wreath and holiday decoration sale. As a result of our community’s fundraising support this semester, we’ve purchased new Ipevo doc cameras, projectors and Tv’s. We will continue to update you as we use your generous contributions to support learning at Buffalo Ridge.

As the first semester comes to a close next Wednesday, EPRs (report cards) will be released to families next Friday, Dec. 23rd at 9:30am. Please use this link for information on EPRs and how to view them.

Have a wonderful winter break. We love you all!

With gratitude,
Jen and Kerri-Lynn
